Most asked question…
How much to survey my land? This is such a loaded question. There are a plethora of variables governing the answer; Size, location, topography, ground cover, property history just to name a few.
If the property is in an area I am familiar with, then I can usually give a pretty good estimate. Unfortunately, there are more places in the world I’m not familiar with than that I am.
Luckily, I, like many other surveyors, have determined a basic cost for a typical lot survey. This cost is kind of the median price for a lot. When we factor in many of the variables, we can see that if we charge “x” then in the overall scheme of things, we make money (and let’s face it, that is why we are in business).
A wise man once said, “It doesn’t matter what you charge, it only matters what they are willing to pay.” That being said, the price we determine not only has to reflect our costs and desired profit margin, but what is an acceptable price?
So, the next time you ask “How Much?”, don’t be surprised when the surveyor starts looking puzzled.
