From a surveyor, advice should be freely given. If you call a surveyor and ask questions and they avoid taking the time to ensure that you understand what it is you asked about, then you need a different surveyor.
Ignorance of what we do isn’t beneficial to any of us. What surveyors do is complicated enough that we don’t need to add some mystery to it. I personally try to ensure that my clients know everything that they want to know. Some people would like nothing better then to watch every little step, while others just want to tell me to do it and don’t care how it gets done.
Either way, it is the surveyors responsibility to teach the public, one client at a time, about surveying.
